David has started developing the pictures he took during our Scotland hikes this summer. Our first stop in Scotland was Edinburgh. We loved this beautiful city. There are so many things to do: live music everywhere, shopping, amazing historic and cultural sites and - of course - hiking.
When we arrived in Edinburgh, we did what we usually do when we are in a city for the first time and only have a couple of days to explore -we bought two-day hop on, hop off bus tickets that included admission to three of Edinburgh's major attractions (Palace at Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh Castle, and the Scottish National Gallery).
The second day that we were in Edinburgh, we started the bus tour and hopped off at Calton Hill to hike around for a while. This was a short hike, but offered great views of the city. There were also several monuments on the hill. It was a fun and interesting start to the day. Then, we got back on the bus and decided to see the three attractions to which we had tickets. We got as far as the Palace at Holyroodhouse. We were in the courtyard at the Holyroodhouse, looked up, and saw people hiking up a hill. We asked one of the attendants what the hill was was and how to get there. It was King Arthur's Seat and the trailhead was right around the corner in Holyrood Park. Needless to say, our tour of Holyroodhouse came to an abrupt end as we hurried around the corner to go hiking! Totally worth it! The weather was PERFECT, the hike was amazing, and the views were phenomenal. As we hiked up, we were treated to panoramic views of Edinburgh and the surrounding area.
I cannot wait to go back to Edinburgh and explore this amazing city some more!!
