Utah National Parks: Campsite, Angel's Landing, and West Rim Trail

Utah has some of the most extraordinary, beautiful, even otherworldly hikes we've done. We started our hiking trip camping at Zion. We stayed at an amazing campground that I would highly recommend, Zion Canyon RV Park and Campground. We requested a riverside camping site when we reserved our space and we were not disappointed.

David at our Campsite enjoying the river:

We went to sleep every night listening to the river. The campground was just a short (10-15 minute) walk to the park, it was very well kept, bathrooms were very clean, there were showers, and it was very quiet. Perfect. Thank you to our friend, Amanda, for the recommendation! It was amazing.

When we were in Zion, we hiked Angel's Landing, and part of the West Rim Trail on the first day. Angel's landing is a crowded, strenuous, dangerous hike ... but well worth it for the extraordinary view from the top. If you do this hike:

  1. You should leave early (better to hike this before it gets hot and very crowded).
  2. Allow yourself a lot of time, take it slow if you have to - don't let the people behind you make you nervous...be safe and be patient.
  3. Be very careful going down - most injuries on this hike happen on the way down.
  4. Take plenty of water
  5. If you decide to have a snack / lunch at the top, beware of the little ground squirrels that will not hesitate to crawl into your backpack and steal your food. ...and cute as they may be, do not feed them.

The View from Angel's Landing:

If you have time, do not stop at Angel's Landing, try to hike a bit of the West Rim Trail.  The first part of Angel's Landing is the West Rim Trail, after Walter's Wiggles, at Scout's Lookout - the trail splits - you can go up to Angel's Landing, or continue on the West Rim Trail. (As a side note, there are bathrooms at Scout's Lookout, but try to avoid them...if you can) The West Rim Trail offers some amazing views as well. It is very long, so you may not want to hike the entire thing - but even hiking just a small part of it will allow you beautiful views.

Finally, look for condors on this hike - there were three flying around the area when we hiked it.
